Artist Statement

Born in equatorial Africa, Kenya, a child of the British Colonial Service, Morag was raised in Elliot Lake and has lived in Mississauga, Burlington and Sudbury. Morag and her family have now made London their permanent home.
An early interest in drawing has evolved for Morag into a quest for expression in a variety of media including oils, watercolour and pastel, as well as forays into sculpture and installation using various materials.
Morag’s formal training included a brief sojourn at the Hereford College of Art, the Ontario College of Art, Sault College and numerous courses, some at UWO and workshops. She loves to experiment with diverse mediums, exploring new ways of presenting traditional subjects which reflect her vision of reality, in a contemporary social-impressionism style.
Over the years she has had a few solo shows, participated in numerous group shows. With years of experience, Morag has a reputation as skilful portrait painter in watercolours, oil and pastels. The winner of awards, Morag has work in private and corporate collections across Ontario. Town of Elliot Lake, Sudbury General Hospital and Museum London.
Involvement in community affairs has always been important to Morag: she was a founding member of the Elliot Lake Arts Council and Ptarmigan Players, is past president of the Burlington Fine Arts Guild, and has been involved in Fringe Nord and the Children’s Festival in Sudbury. Here in London she served on the Board at The Arts Project, volunteered at the Children’s International Festival and the Celtic Festival. She is also a member of the Forest City Gallery and has worked with Ausable Theatre.
